Yorkshire covers more ground than any other English region and the fuel market reflects that spread. Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield, Wakefield and Hull all have strong supermarket competition and sit consistently below the national average, while the Dales, the Moors and the Wolds are a different proposition entirely.
The Humber ports at Hull, Grimsby and Immingham anchor diesel demand in the east. Immingham handles a very large share of the country's refined fuel imports, and the haulage feeding those docks keeps stations along the A180 and M180 turning stock over quickly.
The upland areas are where planning pays. Crossing the Dales on the A684 or the Moors on the A171 means long gaps between forecourts, and the ones you do find are small, independent and priced for a limited local trade. Skipton, Northallerton, Pickering and Malton are the usual last chances before the open country, and Keighley and the Airedale supermarket sites often show up among the cheapest in the north.
