A free, independent tool for comparing UK fuel prices. Here is who we are, why the site exists, and exactly what sits behind the numbers.
Who we are
findpetrol.co.uk is built and run by a small UK team. We are not a fuel retailer, we are not affiliated with any forecourt brand, and we do not sell anything. The site is a straight comparison tool: it shows what participating UK forecourts are charging for petrol, diesel and premium fuels, right now, so drivers can decide where to fill up instead of guessing.
Why we built it
UK fuel prices vary by 10p or more per litre between stations a few miles apart, and the Competition and Markets Authority has repeatedly found that drivers who do not shop around overpay significantly. The problem was never the availability of prices - retailers report them - it was that nobody made them easy to compare. The government's Fuel Finder service opened that data up, and we built the interface we wanted to use: search a town or a brand, see the cheapest stations, and move on with your day.
What the numbers are made of
We do not estimate or guess prices. Every price on the site is reported by the retailer:
- Fuel prices come from the UK government's Fuel Finder service, covering thousands of forecourts, synced throughout the day. The full breakdown is on our data sources page.
- Community corrections: if a pump price has changed before the feed catches up, anyone can report it on the station's page. Corrections within a sane range go live instantly with a "User Verified" badge.
- Station facilities (opening hours, car washes, ATMs) are cross-referenced from OpenStreetMap.
- MOT histories on our sister tool come from the official DVSA records.
How the site is funded
findpetrol.co.uk is free to use, with no account, no paywall and no limits. Running it costs money, so the site may carry clearly-labelled advertising. Ads will never be placed inside price tables or mixed with data in a way that could be mistaken for it, and sponsorships of any kind would be labelled as such. If advertising ever changes what we publish, that is the day to stop trusting us - which is why it will not.
Our guides
The fuel guides are written by the team behind the data. Where a guide quotes a number - an average price, a spread between brands, a seasonal swing - it comes from the same database the site displays, not from a press release. Where we are making a judgement call rather than stating a measurement, the guide says so.
