Aberdeen and Dundee anchor the north east, and the energy sector gives Aberdeen an unusual fuel profile. Offshore logistics, supply vessels and a large commuting workforce keep both petrol and diesel moving steadily, and the city has enough forecourts to sustain proper competition.
Away from the two cities the picture changes. Aberdeenshire farming country, the Moray coast and the towns along the A96 toward Elgin have fewer stations covering a lot of ground. Prices in Banff, Fraserburgh and Peterhead reflect the distance from the terminals rather than any lack of demand.
Dundee and the Angus towns benefit from being close to the Central Belt supply chain and generally track a little cheaper than the far north east. Filling in Dundee, Aberdeen, Elgin or Inverurie before heading into the hinterland is the sensible habit.
