The Central Belt holds the bulk of Scotland's population and nearly all of its competitive fuel pricing. Glasgow, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Livingston, Paisley and Motherwell sit close enough together, linked by the M8, M9 and M74, that a price move at one large forecourt is usually matched within a day.

Glasgow and its surrounding towns tend to produce the lowest prices in Scotland. Costco at Springburn, the Ayrshire independents just to the south west and the supermarket sites across Lanarkshire all pull in the same direction. Edinburgh runs slightly dearer, with the keenest prices out at Colinton, Currie and the Gyle rather than in the centre.

For anyone heading north, this is the place to fill. The difference between a full tank bought in the Central Belt and the same tank bought beyond Perth or Fort William is real money, and it only widens the further you go.
