The eastern counties run from the Antrim coast down through Ballymena and Antrim town into Armagh, Newry and the Mourne country. Newry is the notable one for price, sitting close enough to the border that retailers there price with the Republic firmly in mind.
The A1 between Belfast and Newry is the main artery and carries heavy cross border freight, which supports a run of well used forecourts along its length. Larne adds ferry traffic on the coast, with sailings to Scotland keeping a steady flow of vehicles moving through.
Away from those corridors, the Glens of Antrim and the Mournes are rural and the network thins. Ballymena, Newry, Armagh and Downpatrick are the sensible places to fill before heading into the hills or along the coast road.
