The East of England covers everything from the Cambridge commuter belt down to the Essex estuary and out across the Norfolk and Suffolk coast, and prices vary accordingly. The southern edge, around Chelmsford, Basildon and the towns inside the M25 pull, behaves like outer London. The further north and east you go, the quieter the market gets.
Felixstowe is the single biggest influence on diesel in the region. It is the largest container port in the country and the lorry traffic feeding it along the A14 keeps a string of stations busy from Cambridge across to the coast. Those forecourts are used to volume and price competitively for it.
Norfolk and the Suffolk coast thin out noticeably once you leave the main roads. Around the Broads, the north Norfolk coast and the Fens the stations are far apart and often close early, so the practical advice is to fill in Norwich, King's Lynn, Bury St Edmunds or Ipswich before heading out rather than hoping something is open when you arrive.

Figures cover stations reporting to the official CMA price feed within the last 30 days. We exclude obvious reporting errors - prices given in pounds rather than pence, retailer test records, and premium grades priced below the standard grade - so the averages reflect what you can actually pay.
